Groenendyk, Helena "Lenie" – (nee Rietdijk)(Retired Nurse and Member of St. Giles Presbyterian Church)
Peacefully at Fairhaven Home on June 1, 2016 in her 90th year. Widow of Simon Petrus Groenendyk. Stepmother of Loek (Clementina) and Simon of the Netherlands, Marijke Groenendyk, Sylvia (Gary) Monteith, Ingrid Woodward of Ontario and Tim (Lynette) Groenendyk of Saskatchewan. Daughter of the late Karel Rietdijk and Nel Rietdijk-van Renssen. Sister of Karel Rietdijk, Sija (Jaap) Stienstra, and Karl Rietdijk. Sister-in-law of Piet and Gijs (Loes) Groenendijk, and Ria (Jan) Verwerda. Survived by many grandchildren, nephews, nieces and cousins. Lenie left Holland to become a nurse and proceeded to work in Arizona, France and at Sick Children’s Hospital in Toronto. She then moved to Peterborough and retired from St. Joseph’s Hospital. Visitation will be held at ST. GILES PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, 785 Park St S., on Saturday, July 9, 2016 from 12.00pm -1.00pm with a Memorial Service to follow at 1.00pm. Interment Rosemount Memorial Gardens at a later date. For those that wish to commemorate Lenie through donations please consider the Alzheimer Society.
