Born in the Netherlands, with his family he emigrated to St. Eustatius, W.I. in 1949 and to Canada in 1952 to fulfill his dream to be a successful Dairy Farmer. Dear husband of the late Mary (nee van de Gevel, 1999). Loved dearly by his children Peter (Anne), John (Mary), Elizabeth Mann (Reagh), Maria van Dyk (Bob Merritt and the late Wolf Wiedemann), Narda, Lena Sterling (Henry), Len (the late Dottye), Annie (Andrew Magee), son-in-law, Marinus van Bakel (Anne) and his late infant son Bertje and his daughter Joanne van Bakel. Proud Opa of 20, Peter (Pam) Joe (Maria), Paul (Sarah), Michelle (Jason), Christina (Doug), Maria (John), Stephen (Kelly), Jordan (Anna), Selena (Kevin), Leonard (Irene), David (Carolyn), Laura (Dave), Edward, Christopher, Sarah (Louis), Milo, Skylar (Lynn), Silas (Louise), Scott (Stephanie), Lisa (Liam). Great Opa of 30, Victoria, Samantha, Rebecca, Meghan, Katie, Hanna, Adam (Niki), Kyle, Noah, Grace, Henry, Nevaeh, Nathaniel, Ashton, Kaelan, Jenson, Branson, Lyndon, Beatrice, Lizette, Saskia, Oliver, Josephine, Valen,Melissa, Jacob, Cosmos, Rowyn, Ryder, Hilda Plum and great-great Opa of 1, Charlie. Predeceased by his 6 siblings in the Netherlands. Len retired, first to Cookstown then to Hanover and later to Frazerville and enjoyed good food, the daily paper, visits, phone calls and postcards from his children and grandchildren as they travelled the world. We are grateful for the gentle care he received at Peterborough Extendicare the past eleven months. Friends will be received on Saturday, September 13, 2014 from 11:30 a.m. until time of eulogy at 12:30 p.m. and a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1 p.m. at the Holy Family Parish Roman Catholic Church, 352 10th Avenue, Hanover, ON. Interment to follow at Hanover Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations in Len's memory may be made to a charity of choice. Len gepensioneerd, eerste Cookstown vervolgens naar Hannover en later naar Frazerville en genoten van lekker eten, het dagblad, bezoeken, telefoontjes en ansichtkaarten van zijn kinderen en kleinkinderen als ze de hele wereld gereisd. We zijn dankbaar voor de zachte verzorging die hij ontving bij Peterborough Extendicare de afgelopen elf maanden.
