<div itemprop="description">deBruyn, Trudy (Truus) - Went to be with her Lord and her beloved husband Bernard (Ben) on Sunday, September 6, 2015 in her 97th year. A true matriarch of the family, Trudy will be missed by her children: Paul (Mary), Max (Dianne), Diderica (Didi) Calhoun, Johanna Genge (Don), Ben (Linda), Edwin (Gillian), Michael (Christine), Kathy MacDougall (Bruce). Trudy was a beloved Oma to: Jeanette (Peter), Darryn (Lara), Rhonda (John), Jacqueline (Brian), Yvonne (Tony), D. Marcus, Laura, Andrew (Jayme), Kevin (Christie), Gregory (Dominicka), Meghan (Mark), David (Lindsay), Amy (Royan), Jason (Myla), Rachel, Jennifer (Steven), Emily (Andrew), Rebecca (John), Nick (Leslie), Zack (Emily), Melina, Scott. The delight of her later years were her great grandchildren: Ethan, Owen, Alex, Sam, Ben, Sarah, Jesse, Jada, Tasha, Joey, Riley, Raeann, Helen, Anna, Maggie, Alison, Matthew, Ayanna, Miriam, Georgia, Ava, Aaron and Asher. Trudy is predeceased by her sister Johanna, and remembered with love by her sister, Willy deVos and brother, Folgert Zwaving, of Rotterdam, The Netherlands, as well as many Dutch cousins, nieces and nephews. Trudy was proud of her family. She knew each child, grandchild and great grandchild&rsquo;s accomplishments, their concerns and their joys. Her incredible memory was a database for all of us, as she remembered important facts, trivia and any date of any family activities. Even unable to see, she was a contributor to Fairhaven&rsquo;s Seniors&rsquo; choir and read passages for Remembrance Day services. Trudy was a strong, indomitable woman in her life and in her faith. She was born in Dalen, in The Netherlands, married Bernard and with their five children immigrated to Canada in 1952. After a few years in southwestern Ontario, they made the Peterborough area their home. They lived on the 12th line of Cavan for eight years, then in the Bethany area before moving to Peterborough in 1962. As part of the Peterborough community, Trudy nursed at Civic hospital for 25 years. Following Ben&rsquo;s death in 1989, she continued to live in Peterborough and support her church, her community and her family. She then moved to Holland Christian Homes in Brampton, where she enjoyed many years being a strong member there. She chose to move to Fairhaven LTC when her sight failed. Cephas Christian Reformed Church in Peterborough and the wider church community were very important to her. She served as National President of the Canadian Federation of Christian Reformed Women for eight years. She was also involved in the local Ladies Auxiliary and the Mary and Martha Society at Cephas. She was a moral compass; giving words of endearment and courage to her friends, caregivers and to her family until the last day. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 23rd from 2-4 &amp; 6-8 pm at Nisbett Funeral Home 600 Monaghan Road Peterborough, 705-745-3211. A Celebration of her Life will be held on Friday, September 24th, 2015 at Cephas Christian Reformed Church (220 Goodfellow Road) at 11 am, Rev. Don Genge officiating. Reception to follow. Our family wish to thank the staff at Fairhaven and Dr. Spink for their incredible love and care of Mom in the last seven years, especially during the last week preceding her death. A private family interment will be at Mount Lawn Memorial Gardens in Whitby at a later date. In memory of Trudy, donations to the Ladies Auxiliary of Cephas Christian Reformed Church would be appreciated.</div>
